What is a Plastic Injection Machine?

A plastic injection machine is an advanced technology that uses plastic pellets, also called granules, as raw materials. These pellets are melted under high pressure to become liquid. It is then injected into the mold of the desired shape and cooled to harden.

plastic injection moulding machines, also known as presses, consist of a material hopper, an injection ram or screw-type plunger, and a heating unit. Molds are clamped to the platen of the molding machine, where plastic is injected into the mold through the sprue orifice. Presses are rated by tonnage, which is the calculation of the amount of clamping force that the machine can exert.

How does the Plastic Injection Machine work?

The plastic injection molding process is a manufacturing method for producing plastic parts. Before the process begins, an experienced mold maker creates the mold or tool used to make the part. The mold includes two halves (core and cavity) and contains all the geometry and features that make up the part specifications.

Once a component is designed, a mold is made and precision-machined to form the features of the desired part. A CNC injection molding machine, also known as an injection press, is a machine for manufacturing plastic products by the injection molding process. It consists of two main parts, an injection unit, and a clamping unit.

Injection Molding Machine Operation:

1 . The raw plastic material is fed into the injection molding machine through the hopper.

2 . The material is transferred through a heated barrel where it is heated to its melting point and injected into a two-plate mold cavity by means of an injection ram or screw-type plunger.

3 . The material cools and solidifies into the shape of the cavity; then it's ejected out of the open end of the die when it opens up, either mechanically or pneumatically.

The technical principle of Plastic Injection Machine

The Plastic Injection Machine is a tool that melts the plastic particles and then injects them into the mold cavity, cooling and solidifying to obtain the desired plastic parts. The general mold consists of three parts: fixed mold, movable mold, and injection device.

Injection device: it is composed of the barrel, screw (or plunger), heating ring, nozzle head, and pouring system. Its function is to melt the plastic by means of heat conduction in the barrel; pressurize it with a screw (or plunger) to make it inject into the cavity through a special nozzle head; control the temperature and pressure at each part of the machine to ensure normal operation.

Fixed mold: Fixed on the working table or machine frame, its function is to keep the original shape of plastic parts formed after cooling.

Movable die: installed in a movable slide on a machine frame or working table, its function is to open and close with a fixed die for easy removal of products after forming.

Main specifications and features of Plastic Injection Machine

A plastic Injection Machine is a machine that can produce plastic products. According to the type of injection molding machine, it can be divided into vertical and horizontal. By clamping force, it can be divided into small, medium, and large.

Main specifications and features of Plastic Injection Machine:

1. The maximum injection volume should be greater than the maximum injection volume of the injection molding machine. Because most of the products have a gate system, in order to prevent waste from entering the gate system and causing the blockage, the injection volume must be greater than the volume of the product at least 1.5-2 times

2. The weight of the product is one of the main factors determining the clamping force of Plastic Injection Machine

3. The shape and size of the product are also important factors in determining the size of the Plastic Injection Machine

4. The thickness of each part of the product is also an important factor affecting the selection of Plastic Injection Machine

5. The wall thickness uniformity requirements of Plastic Injection Machine

6. The degree to which each part is stretched is also an important basis for selecting Plastic Injection Machine

Main types of Plastic Injection Machine

There are many different types of injection molding machines available for use in the manufacturing industry. These machines are generally defined by their ability to produce a wide range of products, or simply put, the number of products they can produce at one time. This is known as their capacity.

There are five main types of injection molding machines available on the market today:

1.Desktop injection molding machine

The desktop injection molding machines are small injection molding machines and will fit on top of a desk. It is better for smaller spaces and smaller runs of molds. The benchtop injection molding machine is a large stand-alone machine that needs more space to function but can do larger runs.

2.Vertical Injection Molding Machine

The Vertical Injection Molding Machines are mainly used for insert molding applications in the plastic industry. The machine is assembled with a precision-engineered clamping system, a fast and dynamic hydraulic injection system, and an efficient plasticizing system. The machine is developed by using the latest technology and modern engineering concepts.

3.Multi-Color Injection Molding Machine

The multi-color injection molding machine can mix two or more different colors of plastic raw materials at the same time, and the plastic pellets can be directly used for the injection machine without separate pelletizing. An injection molding method that injects two or more differently colored plastics into a mold and fuses them together. Also called double-color injection molding, two-color injection molding, bicolor injection molding, etc. The main feature is to produce a variety of beautiful color products.

4.Horizontal Injection Molding Machine

Our range of Horizontal Injection Moulding Machine is sophisticated in design and is made using high-quality raw materials. Plastic Injection Machine care and maintenance

1.Plastic injection machine daily water and electricity must be cut off after use, the air pressure of the machine is discharged (not discharged for a long time will cause damage to the machine).

2.The surface of the plastic injection machine should be kept dry, clean, dust-free, and clean; in addition, the air filter and air end should be cleaned regularly to ensure that there is no clogging in order to ensure that the pressure at the end of the injection can reach 0.8Mpa or more.

3.The barrel temperature of the plastic injection machine is determined according to different materials; when it is not used, it should be reduced as much as possible to save energy consumption; when it is not used for a long time, it should be fully cooled and stored in a dry place. For example PVC material products are generally produced at about 200 ° C, PS material products are required not lower than 210 °C, etc., so if you do not pay attention to heat preservation, it will affect production efficiency or even affect product quality.

4.Check whether all parts are normal before work every day, whether there are abnormal noise or leakage phenomena in each part during operation.

Plastic Injection Machine FAQ

As a manufacturer of plastic injection machines, we get asked quite a few questions. Here's a basic FAQ about plastic injection molding machines.

Q: Can one plastic injection molding machine use various models?

A: Yes, one plastic injection molding machine can use various models.

Because the melt flow characteristic of plastic is a non-linear change. The injection pressure, screw speed, and back pressure are constantly changing.

And the parameters are different in different models, but the basic process is almost the same. So there will be no obvious difference when changing models on the same machine.

Q: How big are plastic injection molding machines?

A:The size of the molding machine will depend on the part size.

The largest injection molding machine in the world is currently built by a German company. They produce machines that can accept a gigantic shot volume, which is not measured in grams anymore, but kilograms.

A lot of people are using these machines to produce high-quality products in large quantities.

So, for example, if you have a very complex product with a lot of undercuts and need to produce more than one million pieces per year, then we can provide you with the best solution for this.

Q: How to perform quality control for plastic injection moulding machines?

A: Make sure the injection molding machine is operating at the proper temperature. The temperature of the injection molding machine needs to be set at 220 degrees F or less. This is to ensure that the plastic does not expand in the mold cavity too much.

Make sure there are no small holes in the mold that could cause air bubbles to form in the plastic product.

Use a thermometer to make sure both sides of the mold are being heated equally and uniformly.

Check for any areas of the plastic part that might be thinner than others, especially near holes and edges. These areas tend to break easily and need extra attention during quality control inspection.

Check for any part of the molded product where the plastic might have been too thin or thick, indicating improper injection pressure or flow rate during production. Also check for signs of poor cooling—this will show up as unevenness on both sides of your product.

Q: what is a rem error in plastic injection machines?

A: REM error is the error of the injection molding machine rod. Rod is the transmission part of the injection molding machine, which connects the oil cylinder and mold clamping system. The rotation of the rod determines the movement state (opening, closing, locking) of the mold clamping mechanism. The tilt angle of the rod during operation is called "REM error".

This "REM error" will seriously affect the accuracy of plastic products, so it needs to be corrected in time.

Q: what is a rem unit error in plastic injection machines?

A:Rem unit error is a machine fault that occurs when the feed of the material or melt into the mold cavity occurs faster or slower than the intended rate.

This is usually caused by inaccurate screw injection speeds.

It can be checked by the following methods:-

1 .By checking the residence time of the melt in the barrel;

2 .By observing the screw recovery stroke at varying injection pressures;

3 .By analyzing the pressure curve during screw recovery stroke;

4 .By plotting a graph between injection pressure and screw position;

5 .By plotting a graph between injection pressure and screw speed;

6 .By plotting a graph between injection speed and position of the screw;

Q: how do I replace seals on an ejector on a plastic injection machine?

A: I have been in injection molding for 12 years and I have replaced ejector seals many times. I do not want to take you through a step by step process since you did not post any pictures but here are some tips:

1. If you can use a larger seal than the original one that is better, more rubber on the outside to hold the seal in place.

2. Apply grease to the inside of the seal before it is installed. A good grease will help lubricate the seal and make it last longer.

3. Use a rubber hammer to tap around the outside of the seal after you install it, this will help keep it from coming out.

4. Also, I would suggest getting some new ejector pins if they are worn or leaking oil, they won't last long with a new seal if they are worn or pitted

Q: The tonnage of a plastic injection molder refers to what aspect of the machine?

A: The tonnage of an injection molder refers to the maximum clamping force it can generate. The clamping force is what holds the mold shut during the injection/packing cycle and keeps it closed until the part is ejected.

Q: How fast does the plastic move in an injection molding machine?

A: The short answer is, it depends on how much plastic is being injected into the mold.

It also depends on the type of plastic being injected. Some plastics are very viscous when they're injected and take a while to fill the mold. Others are less viscous and can be pushed through the mold quickly. But regardless of how fast the plastic moves, there's always going to be a point where it fills up all the space in the mold and then stops its forward movement.

If you're using an injection molding machine that has hydraulic rams, those rams will have a proportional valve that controls the speed at which they move. The faster you make them move, the more pressure you put on the plastic in front of them, and if you're not careful, you'll end up breaking stuff. If you make them too slow, you won't get enough plastic in your part before it cools down.
